The new 2023 Streamlight ProTac 2.0 Headlamp has several important qualities so let’s start right away with them:
1. Light Output – has ONLY 3 modes and that simplicity is EXACTLY what working men needs.
High: 2,000 lumens; 241 m beam; runs 2.25 hours
Medium: 650 lumens; 130 m beam; runs 4.5 hours
Low: 110 lumens; 55 m beam; runs 25 hours
Numbers are impressive in each mode.
2. Features TEN-TAP programming - Choice of three user-selectable programs:
a) high/medium/low
b) high only
c) low/high
TEN-TAP programming is one of the best things about ProTac 2.0 Headlamp. Even though it sounds simple, this programming function is exactly what every user needs. Possibility to choose the work mode that you like the most and not like with other lights and headlamps where you have to run through every mode every time while you working on an important problem. I chose the c mode (low/high) as the one that suits me the best. You can choose some of the other two if that is what you like the most. The TEN-TAP programmable switch is conveniently located on the right-hand side of the headlamp
Important thing is that ProTac 2.0 Headlamp will adjust to your need instead that you have to adjust to a headlamp. This is so simple and so important that I really enjoyed it and now I kinda expect that to become the standard of the industry.
Lithium-Ion 4900mAh SL-B50 battery pack is a beast. Fully charged in 6 hours and with built-in USB-C charging port.
3. Battery Pack
Something needs to power those 2,000 lumens for a long time, so the ProTac 2.0 Headlamp uses Streamlight SL-B50 Protected Li-Ion USB Rechargeable Battery Pack. The SL-B50 3.6V Rechargeable Battery Pack is the beast. It provides you with a huge capacity of 4900mAh and it is rechargeable at least 500 times. It weighs only 3 ounces (85 grams). Charging is easy. It charges in 6 hours using USB-C input and provided USB-C cable. Good thing is that you don’t have to buy a special charger to charge the SL-B50 battery pack. You can plug provided USB-C cable directly into the USB-C port in the body of the SL-B50 battery and charge it this way if you are in your office or home. If you are out there on your job, in your car or truck, then you can plug the USB-C cable directly into the USB-C port of the ProTac 2.0 Headlamp and charge it without taking the battery pack out.
The ProTac 2.0 Headlamp has a USB-C port protected by a metal sleeve that you can just slide to the right to access. The SL-B50 battery pack has battery charge status indicators around the port: Red for charging, and green for fully charged. Simple and easy. It also has an integrated safety circuit that protects batteries from over-charge/over-discharge. This is a very important function for us mortals if we want a long lifespan of our batteries. With an over-charge/over-discharge built-in protection battery pack will last longer, and in case something happens, the Streamlight offers a 2-year limited warranty on a battery pack.

4. Built Quality
The ProTac 2.0 Headlamp is built from 6000 series machined aircraft aluminum with Type II MIL-Spec anodized finish. The ProTac 2.0 Headlamp is 4.92 inches wide and 2.56 inches deep with a head diameter of 1.46 inches. It weighs 10.48 ounces (297g) WITH the included SL-B50 rechargeable battery. It is not the smallest headlamp on the market but just like with car engines, 12 cylinder is bigger and more powerful than a 4-cylinder engine. All that light and battery capacity has to be stored somewhere. The ProTac 2.0 headlamp has an IP64-rated design for dust-tight and water-resistant operation and is impact-resistant tested to 2 meters. All openings O-ring sealed.
5. Design Features
The ProTac 2.0 Headlamp has an all-in-one design, meaning that the battery is not located at the back of the adjustable elastic head strap. The battery is located in an aluminum housing, just under the LED light. Because the battery is part of the compact housing of the light at the front, no wires are coming from the back, on the head strap, to the front, like with some other designs and manufacturers. I like this all-in-one design the best. Simple, easy to use, easy to store, and nothing to break in the long run.
The ProTac 2.0 Headlamp also can be articulated vertically to the user’s preference. If you must wear a hard hat at your workplace then it is good to know that ProTac 2.0 Headlamp comes not only with a standard elastic head strap but also with a rubber strap for mounting it on your hard hat. Once fixed on your hard hat, you can even charge your ProTac 2.0 Headlamp on it through a built-in USB-C charge port.
Verdict: The Streamlight ProTac 2.0 headlamp is an excellent pro-grade, heavy-duty work headlamp. It is not for every use. It is for heavy work use.
